Black Flies Matter Shirt
The rest of the films are linked more by tone than by plot or character. Lovers Rock, a sensual paean to the U.K.-born musical genre of the Black Flies Matter Shirt same name, takes place in 1980, and stars Micheal Ward and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn as a young couple, falling in love over the course of a single night at a house party. Next up is Alex Wheatle, with novice Sheyi Cole depicting Wheatle, a contemporary novelist, and the way his life path intersected with the 1981 Brixton uprising, another defining moment of unrest in London. Red, White, and Blue, which is scheduled to be shown in the New York Film Festival lineup on October 3, features Star Wars vet John Boyega as Leroy Logan, who in 1982 joined the then nearly all-white Metropolitan Police force in London, combating institutionalized bias as he ascended the ranks. Completing the anthology is Education, which McQueen said he is still finishing.
